Fall Renaissance Faire!

The Black Company is once again going to the Escondido Renaissance Faire!!
The faire is two weekends: Oct 31st - Nov 1st, and Nov 7th - Nov 8th at Felicita Park.

The black Company will be bringing it's signature live steel combat to the faire, as well as a lot of mercenary dealings and general debauchery. The more people that come and play with us, the more fun it will be for all!

Contact Apathaus if you want to get on our gatelist. We really need and appreciate people to volunteer for setup/teardown. It goes super fast with a few extra bodies.

Mercenaries!
Faire is upon us! Another chance for us to make merry and inspire fear in the hearts of all those who would see us on the battlefield!

But before all of that happens, we need to setup our encampment...

Apathaus and I are going to rendezvous at Stormhold this Friday at 1:30PM. From there, we are going to tow the trailer with all of our gear up to Felicita Park and set everything up in one fell swoop! This fell swoop will be a hell of a lot easier and take much less time if we have more people assisting us. So please, fellow brothers-and-sisters-in-arms, please come on out this Friday and help us setup for another glorious renaissance faire!!

Thursday Steel Practice

Jason the Dirty has been holding steel practices at his house for a while now, and it's high time I contributed my arm to the fight!
As such, I'll be there practicing this Thursday at 6pm. All of you steel fighters should definitely come out for some combat.

I'm working wednesday night, so if anyone wants to practice shinai at Stormhold, you'll have to ask the Captain yourself.

2009 Battle Pageant
New additions/changes are in RED!
Battle Pageant: Escondido Goldcoast Faire Generic
Note: Revised Draft: Comments are invited!

We will be having our usual 8 am battle meeting o the battlefield to go over preliminaries: Please make sure you have at least one representative there! The Battle Meeting and Muster will be at 1:30 PM, the battle itself at 2 PM, and the Captain’s Meeting following battle (approx. 2:45 PM).

All participants must have gloves and closed toe shoes/boots. All weapons must be live steel quality, with no sharp edges or points. Remove all burrs with a file.

Prologue: To take place earlier in the day.
King Phillip is in town to woo Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. The Rebels would rather be allied with Phillip as he has promised them freedom from British rule, etc. The Rebels have decide that they will approach the morning procession and demand to speak with Phillip. Her Majesty, not willing to show this embarrassing side of her Empire, refuses. This de-evolves into a street brawl between hot-heads in both camps. The Rebels withdraw while making threats to “Settle this in a military fashion”.
During the day, there should be street talk of the battle brewing between the Rebels, who have decided to ally themselves with the Spanish and the Royalist troops. The Shire Street Folke should be engaged in talk throughout the day discussing the merits of each side. Who shall win? What is to become of the defeated?
Act 1: The Call to Arms!
The Call to Arms is issued throughout the Shire. Heralds from all over the Shire are ringing bells and reading the official proclamation. The entire village should come alive. The Officers for each battle camp should bark orders and soldiers should be hastily gearing up for the upcoming battle. The Officers inspect the troops ranks and bark last minute orders, and they march to the assembly area. (McFionn encampment). The Baron's Captain confers with the various officers, and the order to march is given. There should be a great deal of fanfare accompanying all this. Drummers (if available) should be going at it, Orders shouted, etc… Each Unit should have their Battle Standard proudly displayed in the ranks. The army marches in formation to the site of battle….
The idea is to get the entire faire involved in this. All patrons by this time should know there is going to be a battle. It should be readily apparent where the battle is: Everyone is flocking to either fight or witness it.
Act 2: First Contact

As the Baron’s army advances to position, the lead elements move to engage the Renegades’ Forlorn Hope. (Each side sends about 2 troops for this, with minimal casualties). This should be a slow-retreating holding action, to allow the Renegades to retreat into the stronghold. Once The Baron’s troops reach position, the Renegades clear the field in retreat.

Act 3: The Introduction and the Challenge:
At this point, both sides of the field should be coalescing into battle positions: The Renegades behind their walls, and the Baron’s troops at the far end of the battlefield. The narrator will give a dialogue to the crowd to enlighten them as to the day's events and the ensuing battle.
The Baron's Captain steps forth and issues The Challenge: "By order of the Baron, you are to lay down your arms and surrender your leaders for judgment. Failure to do so will result in their being taken by forc of arms.". This should evoke a loud response from the Renegades.
The Baron’s Captain responds with a surly “Very well then: you have made your decision: die with it!!!” He then turns and marches back to his troops, as the Renegades yell challenges at his retreating back.

Act 4: The Battle Begins
The Captain arrays his troops out for battle at ¼ field. The Archers are ordered to fire arrows into the Keep's Courtyard (Clout shoot into designated kill zone behind the Renegades’ compound). (The Renegades and allies wait for the first 4 Arrow Flights under cover). After Arrow Flight 4, The Renegades pour out of the gate to assault the archers. The Viking Shield wall forms the vanguard with McFionn Pikes in the main body. Wild on the Rebels left flank along with McFionn skirmishers and Ravenstrike on the right flank. The Viking shield wall advances at a run as the Archers fire their lat volley (arrow #5). The Vikings are met by Rosenkeep’s pike line as the Archers backpedal to recover side arms. The Rebel lines advance at a slower pace in order to reinforce the Viking shield wall.

Royalist Forces

The Baron's men advance in two lines: (Polearm line in front rank, Korsecks in rear rank, all light skirmishers on flanks). At the clash of the two armies, the outermost pair of pike men are taken out by the korseck/sword teams. The two sides engage at mid-field. The Baron's light skirmishers engage the pike line flank and any of the pikemen's skirmishers. As the Renegades’ Pike line is outnumbered in the initial assault, they incur the greater losses.
By the time the Renegades’ Pike Line fall back to join up with Renegade, the will have lost 50% pike and skirmishers. The Baron's losses at this point are approx 25%.
Renegade Pikemen, dispense with the pikes and draw melee weapons as they form up with Renegades. The heavies form the shock troops around which the lights and mediums flank. At this point it should be a fairly even battle between the two combatant groups. Casualties on both sides should be moderate: approx 25%.
The order is given to fall back and regroup at ¼ and ¾ field.
Act 6: Second Push
Rebels ground any polearms at this point and go to side arms only.
Once the troops have been rallied, the Rebel General calls for a wedge formation. The Viking shield wall forms the tip with The Wylde and McFionn forming the Rebel’s left flank, Ravenstrike forms the Rebel right flank. On the Baron’s side, Rosenkeep makes up a pike formation in the center with Ravenwood and Hal’s new group (unknown name) forming the Royalist’s right flank and Stranglehold on the left flank.
Both side advance in a measured pace to meet at ¾ field. Pikes hit the shield wall as the Rebel skirmishers perform a modified “Pincer Maneuver”.
*SATURDAY- The tip of the Viking shield wall punches through the pikeline and meets Shadow Kindred. SK cuts them down, forcing the Rebel forces to withdraw and reform.
*SUNDAY- Cutters from the Royalist side (2-3) punch through the shield wall and engage the Rebel rearguard only to be cut down. This causes the Royalist General to call for a withdrawal.

Act 7: Champion’s Battle

A brief parlay and dialogue ensues calling for a champion’s battle to decide the here-to-fore indecisive conflict. The general gist will be an excuse for outrage and the calling of a “Cry Havoc” and the resumption of the battle.
Saturday; the Royalist Champion is unfairly cut-down by either Runt or Takhisis and Lady McFionn. Sunday; The Rebel Champion is unfairly cut-down by a Royalist.
Act 8: Cry Havoc
The Cry of Havoc goes up at which time all pole arms are discarded and personal weapons are drawn. Make sure that those still standing are the veterans, as the melee will become more intense and allow individuals to showcase skill and showmanship.
Both sides are already arrayed in one large battle line with the exception of the Shadow Kindred who are milling about at the rear of the Royalist lines and the Rebel Commanders at the rear of their lines. At the “Cry Havoc” The Rebel right flank breaks into a dead run and sweeps behind the Royalist lines to engage Shadow Kindred. At the same time, Ravenwood on the crowd side mirrors this move going after the Rebel Commanders. Outcome is determined by the day.

Resurrection and Closing:
The cry of resurrection is given. The groups form their ranks, and are introduced in turn. We all leave the field in triumph. NO MORE THAN 3 MINUTES OF DIALOGUE!

Fighter Practice yet again

Hey all you fighter types,
Last week's fighter practice saw only the Captain and yours truly. I want to see more of you out there, dammit!

This Wednesday, I want to fight steel if enough people show up with gear. If you need a piece or two, let me know and I'll pick up some of Dirty's extra stock. I've got some new gauntlets that I need to test out, so someone give me a good fight!

Apathaus says the forecast calls for a decent chance of rain...we'll see how it turns out. Even if it does rain, we can still kick around faire ideas.

Marius - I really like your "Murderers for Hire" idea. I think we can expand on it further. I'm also thinking we could get more people to stop by our camp with some "Challenge a Mercenary" games. Folks can choose to challenge one of our mercenaries in some games I've yet to think of (easy things along the lines of arm wrestling or dice), and we can give them reward scrolls...or personal mercenary favors if they are lusty wenches!!

Anywho, let me know if y'all are going to show up at stormhold this wednesday for practice!

I'd also like to kick around some ideas for some more activities/events/"shows" we could do at faire.

Fighter Practice II: The Revenge

Hey all you mercenary-types. We're going to have another fighter practice this Wednesday at Stormhold. Around 6-ish, whenever y'all get out of work and can make it over.

Last week we fought shinai. What do you all think, should we keep to the bamboo, or should we get back into full steel? I'm game for either, but eager to get back into some heavy metal (...and plastic...)

The deadline for our gatelist is April 18th, so make sure you send your DEFINITE commitment to rally with us to me or Apathaus before then. The more people that want to come out and fight, the better. W've got lots of armor we need to fill out.

We just finished moving into our new house and unpacked everything, time to show it off! I'm part Irish so I figured that having a 'St. Patrick's Day' celebration at the same time would be most excellent. Stop by for some green beer, a pleasant conversation, perhaps some fire and spinny things.

The good news, I am moving inside the same zip code... just down the street.

No packing is necessary, all we have to do is move boxes, I will have all the packing done before you get here.

I am renting a uhaul on Saturday from 10-5 and would love some hands and muscles to assist me in making this smooth sailing.

What I have to move, one bed, a couch, 2 chairs, a desk, a book shelf and yes a bunch of boxes.

Come see the world premier of "Nemesis," a hilarious comedy featuring the sound design of yours truly!

The show runs this week and next, until August 24th. Curtain time is 8:00pm on thursday through saturday, and Sunday at 2:00pm. The suggested donation for tickets is $19 dollars, which means yes, technically you don't have to "donate" any7thing, but this is not a commercial theatre, and these actors are really performing for you individually. Moving Date confirmed for Stormhold

Storm hold is moving and i need yer help!

August 9th and 10th are confirmed as the big days

Its going to basically take an army of people on both days for this to happen so I am appealing to all of you who have enjoyed the many events at stormhold to come help me! Ok no i am begging you!

Day ONE
Saturday 10am - Moving - giant uhaul truck - need lots of man power - could also use a few trucks to haul away garbage. - My hope is to get at least 10 people so it will be super fast and easy.

PARTY
That Saturday night we have a big barbeque and fire jam starting at 6pm. The very last event to be held at Stormhold! The theme is an oldie but a goodie! WIGOUT! bring your favorite Hat or Wig or crazy head dress. Bring anything you want to barbecue / grill and we will get some good old fashion pot luck action going after a long day of moving everything. If you want to sleep over please bring sleeping gear.

DAY TWO
Sunday 10am - cleaning - bring anything you think might help, scrub brushes - I will pay you for any cleaning supplies or we can send someone to the store to get a whole bunch. My hope is to get at least 10 people so it will be super fast and easy.

proggie help!

Ok, so long story short..my pc took a dump on me. My hard drive died on me, but special thanks to Dave for doing his best to recover the files, I appreciate it!

But what I do need help with is that all my programs are out-moded or pirated and so my windows is in piss-poor condition(can't even update it) and my office is old too. After looking into some torrent files to download, my new hard drive became so infected I did a complete format...again!

So can anyone help me?!?!?! I need sp 3 for xp pro, I've got a 500 gig hd but can't use past 137 in it's current shape because of windows. Also I need office(2003 or better). Any help?????

10th anniversary notes - members must read this carefully

We have a limited gatelist for Black Company members to get into the feast for free. In order to gatelist you must be able to setup on saturday and tear down on sunday. Otherwise you have to pay to get in like everyone else. We have a very tight budget so we can't afford extraneous people because we like them. The venue charges us per PERSON and the feast will cost us so much money per PERSON so anyone getting in for free will have to be subsidized by the rest of the event. If the budget is looking too tight - I am going to ask the Black Company members to at least pay for their feast food and drink (8 bucks.)

Please respond to the thread below if you are in the Black Company and are going to be doing the full event with us and want to be on the gatelist.

Also I need from Burke and others the list of people they contacted for being serving wenches for the feast - please email to those to me along with contact information - I need to talk to all the people who will be working the event: storm at blackco.org - right now there is very few people actually on the list as being confirmed/gatelisted so if people are counting on getting in, entertaining/helping out - please email me their info ASAP or they won't be on the list. Or if you are that person and reading this - then you should email me directly. If you are an entertainer please also send me your details and any names that you want on the gatelist.

Late Lost and Found

Well, I haven't really found anything, but I'm missing a couple things from the Escondido ren. faire. When I went to the Captain's house after the ren. faire, I asked him if he had my weapons. He said that he didn't, but put everything, that wasn't his, out on the final day for people to claim.

So, I'm hoping that someone grabbed my weapons. One was a 'Practical Knight' sword and sheath. The sword was only used at two ren faires, so it was mostly clean. It has a nick right next to the pommel on one edge. The sheath was clean and looked brand new. The other weapon was a hand axe that the Captain had given me. It had a black handle with white runes written on the side. The axe head had a hole in it. One individual (I can't remember his name) was carrying it around and polished the axe head, I'm not sure if he took it with him or not.

If anyone has a lead on these weapons, I'd be grateful. I hope to see some of you at May War this weekend, where we get to pound on others instead of ourselves!!!

For all my d&d'ers out there, for our next game I have properly made maps, I mean they are color coordinated, everything is very easy to read, and detailed. But they are a bit on the large side and I can't have the whole map showing the entire time. To simplify matters, can everyone bring some rags or cloth they don't care about? The reason is simple, smaller items(whether we make them that way or they come that way!) can be used easier to hide portions of the map and then can be revealed with ease without giving it all away. I've got some nasty suprises for our next session too so watch out!!

Attn Black Company,

A change in the location for Wednesday’s Fighter Practice. Please Read!

All of you who are thinking of fighting in this upcoming May War (24th-26th) with the SCA need to come to practice this Wed the 14th. The practice has been moved to the Allied Garden Park where we usually go for the monthly Arian tourneys. See below for a map.

Jason the Dirty has arranged for an SCA Marshal to be there at 5:30 so we expect you to arrive at 5:15!
We all need to re-qualify in order to fight. The SCA has changed the combat card and will require all combatants to have the new one. If you don’t, you can still come but you’re not going to be able to fight … you can water bear or something but you won’t be fighting! The paper work will be there for you.

It’s very important that you bring all your armor and all your pads! We will also be trying to get everyone outfitted so please take a moment to collect all your gear and any that may be used to get one of your fellow Black ready to fight.

After we get qualified we will be joining the SCA Practice and getting a little taste of what it will be like to out there against 200 other people charging at your line hahahaha!!!

Ok, so this is a childhood game for me but I'm getting back into it. Lots of strategy but not the kind where you rip out your hair. I wanted to know if anyone would like to take a crack at it with me. Certainly the wife will play but when you get 4 players, that's when it gets to be a lot of fun and much more interesting.

Ok, so I've got a very pretty burgundy and black gambeson, very romanesque. Problem is it's too damn small on my chest now. Taking it in isnt' an option as with the cut it has, it's just too pretty to mess up. So on that note, I"m open to a trade preferabally but will sell(rather trade, just works with my karma better). Heads up, I've got a 45 in chest and it's a bit tight but with a 36 in waste there's plenty of room. Comes down to the lower thighs, i'll get a picture up in a bit.

Ok..so some of you know that the firm I was working at shut down back in january. Having moved up to the temecula area, the market is considerably different. I have looked and looked for jobs, and either they turn out to be sales jobs, something I won't touch, or the job seriously wants to cut me off at the knees with the pay they will offer, even with some good negotiating techniques on my part. Can anyone help me out here? I've got extensive experience in the accounting/tax field and no good leads now. Although I do work on the side, it's not going to pay the bills when my unemployment runs out. Friends, I am asking you earnestly, if you know of something please do not hesitate to point it out to me. Office management, taxation, accounting, something along those lines.

Back in Black in 2008

This renn faire was one of the most successful ever for many reasons. A great turn out, of fun people with no real drama. Many lovely, fun, interesting, exciting and more moments. It was a true pleasure to set up camp and take it down with lots of help. Every person added something that was appreciated and noticed. Everything from helping out without being asked, keeping the camp clean, bringing food to share with everyone, fighting when it was hot as hell, playing drums, singing songs and the tenacity of those who went through their Black Company trails and proudly displayed their bruises, and the list goes on and on. and all this following a really great medieval war 2 weeks before where greatly affected the outcome of the war and got paid the highest amount we have ever made as a company!

This is how it is supposed to be...

...and the great thing is, it can get so much better. There is lots more ass-kicking stuff that we can accomplish as a group if we put our minds to it. Better performances, more fighting, more character play. We have lots of new blood with new ideas that I am excited to bring fuel to. We have lots of talent that we are only just starting to tap into. The Black Company is experiencing a renaissance. The trick will always be to keep it real, not try to overly organize like other groups, or like we tried in the past. Our goal remains the same as our website says under the LAW - "Wear lots of Black and Skulls, do cool interesting fun shit, don't stir up drama, and make the company look good." - To do all this with people who don't play head games, have power struggles, gossip and other bullshit. But further to be a place where people can get their freak on. Where brothers and sisters of the same mind come together and celebrate in the now. To play characters and have experiences. Not to get through life saying, yeah... but instead FUCK YEAH! What are we doing next!?!

This year is very special as it is the 10th anniversary of the Black Company - to commemorate this we will be holding a celebration feast over-night camping event which will incorporate aspects of the two main communities that we participate in. This will be a grand event which will include a medieval feast with entertainment such as medieval fighting, fire dancing, belly dancing and more while you feast in medieval style. Then it will transition into a nighttime festival with some of our favorite burner DJ's, with crazy visuals, lighting and black lights for flagging and go straight into the next day. The Black Company will be putting on this event and everyone who can help out would be greatly appreciated. We will be scheduling meetings upcoming to plan this event and assign responsibilities. We hope to have a guest list of at least 200 people depending on the venue. This will be the first opportunity for some of the burning man community to experience the other side of what the Black Company is about in the medieval context and vice versa for some of the Medieval members to experience a burning man type event. I think it is going to rock!

AD&D campaign off to a solid start!

I just wanted to extend thanks to everyone from last night's session..it was a bit of a rocky start for me (ie blanking out on how thaco properly works..yikes!) but it came together and we are all having a blast. There's much more to this campaign with lots of fun things to come across so our next session should be just as much fun (and less of a hassel for my rusty skills). Special kudos to Storm for assisting with the battle tracking and stats for so many actional characters. And for those curious......not a wink of sleep before I was off to MEPS to be violated and ignored simultaneously!!!

Just to let you guys know, I have been putting some thought into the
tournaments we will be fighting this weekend for a change, and this
is what I have come up with. Pending Their Royal Magesties approval.

March makeup
Shinai- double elimination tourney
Rapier- "Toe the line" - this is one of my favorites to watch and the
fighters seem to like it.
Armored- drawn weapons - pole arm, hand and a half, case weapons,
spear and shield, sword and buckler. If you can think of one (other
than sword and board) let me know and we can add it in. I just want
to watch people fight without the "old faithful".

In honor of Their Royal Magesties last tournament, we will fight what
I believe is the Kings favorite, King of the Hill. Rules are simple,
keep fighting till you lose! Length of time for each will depend on
the number of fighters and time available. If you are fighting with a
shield, getting armed means you are dead. The reason for this is that
it is a timed event and its not fair to the other combatants if you
spend 30-45 seconds unstrapping your shield because you lost your arm
and then another 30-45 seconds strapping it back on if you win.

Gygax Wake - 12 Hour gaming session

We are organizing a Gary Gygax Wake for alll the D&D nerds out there who want to celebrate Gary's contribution to our lives by playing a good ole classic game of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons or possibly Second Edition D&D - we will take a vote based on who is playing and who is DM'ing - Remember you have to know how to play! This isn't for beginners - although of course you can be rusty as hell.

We need to pick a date for this. We can start in the morning and go all night but we have to at least hit the 12 hour mark for it to be proper.
We need to have probably 2 dungeon masters (I am willing to be one and rich has also volunteered.

Absinthe!

I've spoken with Storm about this a couple times and on both occasions, he recommended that I post this here to get the word out.

My experiences with Absinthe have been unusual, scattered, and NOTHING like what Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Ernest Hemingway depict in their works. Part of this is because it's a little difficult to get similar Absinthe to what they had. For a long time, Absinthe has been banned completely from the United States (thanks to the wine industry, who pushed for the ban to knock Absinthe from being the 'King of the Hill' of alcohol). Recently, the restrictions on Absinthe have relaxed considerably. Now, it's the content of 'thujone' in the Absinthe that determines if it is legal or not.

Thujone was initially confused with THC in marijuana, making people believe that it causes hallucinations, which it usually does not. Some herbs that contain thujone have no restrictions at all. For example, sage and sage oil (which can be almost 50% thujone) are on the FDA’s list of substances generally recognized as safe. For Absinthe, as long as it measures less than 10ppm (equal to 10mg/kg) thujone, then it is legal for sale and consumption.

But, I have a source for King Gold Absinthe that guarantees 100ppm thujone per container. It also guarantees shipping, as well. But, it isn't very cheap. $200 dollars per 24 oz bottle. There are varying strengths of Absinthe available, but this is the strongest.

I would like to have an Absinthe cocktail party. The Absinthe will be served in the traditional manner (absinthe put in a glass, absinthe spoon on top with a sugar cube, and cold water poured over the sugar cube into the glass). This will give people the opportunity to try Absinthe who have never tried it before. Since it would be quite expensive for everyone to buy one of these bottles just to try Absinthe, it'd be considerably cheaper if multiple people chipped in on a bottle and it was shared.

Absinthe has an unusual intoxication. The thujone modulates the neurotransmitter GABAA, which plays a vital role in cognitive thought. Subsequently, absinthe provides a level of clarity not usually associated with alcoholic drinks. And, there is nothing in Absinthe to show up on a urinalysis.

So, if anyone is interested in having an Absinthe cocktail party, reply to this topic. Storm and I discussed possibly having this in conjunction with a Friday fire practice.

First I want to thanks all that came to fair last weekend… It was one of the nicest faire we have had in a while.
The fighting was good those that helped keep the mundane things out of the view of the faire goers did a great job.

This second week end we have decided is an Adult weekend. It means no kids. Sorry but the adults need to have fun too.

Friday night we will get to the park and pull stuff out of the tower.

I know a little shire called Felicita that has a fair pub and is hospitable to skinflints like us.

Hello all,

I'd like to invite the participant battle guilds to joins us in this year's battle pageant. Once again I include a basic generic battle outline that covers the general gist of the battle, subject to minor revisions due to YOUR input. Please make suggestions! As always, we will have an alternate ending on the Sunday battle where the "bad guys" win, so no one gets left out of the glory. Battle is at 2PM both days!

All guilds wanting to participate on the battle pageant must observe the following simple guidelines:

1) Read up on the basic outline and make sure that your troops know the general sequence of events.

2) Send at least one representative to the battle meeting that will be held at 8AM both Saturday and Sunday.

3) Muster at the pre-Battle Meeting at 1:30 PM for final details before hitting the field.

4) Send one representative to the Captain's meeting immediately following the battle.

5) Make sure every weapon you bring on the field is safe for use: No sharp edges, flimsy or loose fittings, etc... Also, no clearly non-period weaponry (fantasy, oriental, etc...) and nothing smaller than a shortsword (meaning no small daggers, etc...).

6) Bring along your support personnel: water women, crowd control, etc...

7) Bring enough water to support your troops.

8) Make sure your troops are rated for live steel (i.e. good control of weapon and safety conscious). Note there will be no rattan-or padded weapons.

9) Make sure that no one hits the field intoxicated (Absolutely no leniency here!).

10) Everyone on field must have gloves and closed toed shoes/boots.

11) No attitudes on the field: everyone out there is your friend and partner.

12) Last but not least: Have Fun while putting on a great show.

If anyone has any questions or comments, please contact me via email. I will by onsite Friday as well if anyone wished to meet in person.

Attention guildmasters: please reply to this email to let me know in what capacity you wish to participate (battle, support, etc...). Let me know what your expected numbers are and what type of weapons / armor you will be using, so I can start to flesh out the line of battle.

Remember folks, this is your battle & your opportunity to let your creativity shine. This is your best opportunity to show a large audience that which makes each of your guilds unique. This script is a template that I encourage you to build upon to make more exciting for both the audience and ourselves.

Also: Be advised that there is a battle meeting to be held at "The Bawb's House" this Sunday March 30th at noon. This will be a good chance to work out some material with a partner or just get a general familiarization for the battle and the folks you'll be working with.

My route is a bit further, and maybe a bit longer in time, but I feel it is much safer.

The year burns quickly and Spring has officially come upon us. And with Spring, our hands are busy building new dreams and realms to explore. As we enter our eleventh year of exploring these fantastic revels, the Sypher crew is setting its focus upon new frontiers where water and light merge. . . This year we have even more talent upon our stages with several new projects by some of our favorite performers to be seen for the first time within the Court.

LOJ Pre-Show Tickets: ( more information ). These tickets let you into the LOJ before anyone else. You'll be treated to a private lounge, and if you'd like to order a nice dinner or enjoy some drinks amongst the Patricians, it's an excellent way to start the evening. Tickets for the Pre-Show are EXTREMELY limited and every year they go FAST.

So it's official, I now reside in Riverside County. After a series of unfortunate events with my mother in law passing, my wife and I ended up getting her house. It may sound cold but this is a far cry from the apartment I lived in before so I'm counting my blessings. I"m just north of Temecula now, not too bad of a drive for anything cool to see. Now that I have a rather large back yard, I need to figure out what to do with it. Dare I to borrow a page from Storm's book and see about general shinai practice??? Perhaps, though I don't know anyone up here or anyone willing to make the drive so that may go on the back burner(no pun intended). I think the first thing I"ll do is just have a general housewarming party this saturday. Anyone interested should hit me up. After that...

I"m still hunting for a job. It's amazing how bad the market is right now, just finding things I can apply for is being a pain. Anyone have any bright ideas or directions I can look?

This week we will be finishing up with our preparations for war.
That said, Saturday we will be at Jason the Dirty’s abode working on armor starting at 10am. If you don’t know how to get there call me or email me.

Also we will have a kitchen wench for the upcoming war (sorry Deb). We will be eating together Saturday night the 29th. But we need a head count by this Sunday to give time to get supplies, it will be a stew of some kind and I will be bringing some bread. Once we have a head count I will tell you what it will cost you.

This week in Poway at Garden Road Park, Sir Karl is sponsoring a "Gladiator" tournament. It starts at 10am on the nose. Be there early. Its one of the last times, we will get into steel before the war.

The layout for the tourney is simple. You will pick a weapons mix/form just before you enter the ring. You will not be matched with your opponent. Each form has it's strengths and weaknesses. Be ready!

House Warming Party

Is it a good idea to open my home to a bunch of pirates and crazy fighters? Probably not... but I'm going to do it anyways...

This Thursday, I will be having a sort-of 'House Warming Party'. Let me explain why I said 'sort-of'.

The only reason why I'm having this get-together at my place is for me to have a reason not to procrastinate and prolong unpacking. According to 'The Incredibles', you're not officially moved-in until every box is unpacked. So, to make sure that I have this done quickly, I'm giving myself motivation to ensure that it's done.

Please don't feel obligated to bring anything. If you want some munchies, please bring your own party favors (I'm a little short on cash so I can't purchase food or drinks for the party). I have a small bar that will be available, but that's it.

If only one person says that they might show up, then this has served it's purpose. But hopefully I can hang out with some friends in the process.
